Fact 273: I have worked for many years on finding my inner strength and loving who I have become in the process.  As a result I have found a resounding happiness.  I remember to smile every day, sometimes all day long.

Fact 402: In October of 2007 we packed up all of things, put them in storage, filled 4 suitcases, grabbed the cats and our passports and moved to Paso Ancho, Jalisco, a small colonas in the foothills of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.  It was the best decision we ever made.  The experiences we had there for 8 months were life-changing, eye opening and humbling.  We miss it every day.

Fact 49: My favorite part of the reception is the wedding cake.  Aside from an all-chocolate one, I ALWAYS make time to sit down and eat cake.  And for the record, my two favorites are Carrot and Key Lime.

FACT 32: All of my pets are named after famous musicians.  My two cats are named Ani (after Ani Difranco) and Myla (after Miles Davis).  The newest addition is our English Cream Golden Retriever.  We named him Mingus after Charles Mingus, a jazz bassist.

Fact 731: I have an irrational fear of being struck by lightning.  Not only that, I know 2 people who actually have been struck and it scares the living ‘bejesus outta me!

FACT 3: My least favorite word in the English language is moist.  I hate it.  It makes me squirm when others say it, when advertising uses it or if I can’t find another word to use in lieu of it.

Fact 55: I am admittedly addicted to soup.

Fact 8: I embrace my inner tomboy.

Fact 27: I once helped saved people from a burning building.  My friend and I were driving through the city when we noticed a couch on fire on someone’s porch.  She kicked in the door and rescued the people inside while I stayed on the phone with 911 until help arrived.  Within 4 minutes the entire building was up in flames.

Fact 128: I know every word to the songs Shoop, Parent’s Just Don’t Understand, Paul Revere and Bust-A-Move.  I can be caught singing them in any public setting if they can be heard playing in the background.

Fact 82: My Mormor and her friend Gloria have been best friends for 60 years.  They met in grade school and still spend time together at least once a week.  They have taught me the meaning of friendship and I long to have that when I am old.

Fact 12: My favorite movie of all time is the Goonies.  I have watched it more than I have watched any other movie.  There were actually several cuts of the film and I have seen them all, my favorite being the original version.

Fact 2000: I never laugh as hard as I do with my girlfriends.  They are my chosen family.

Fact 19: I have been caffeine free for almost 14 years.  It causes me to have hospitalizing panic attacks, so I’ve never tried Jager Bombs or a good ole’ Absolute and Red Bull.  You will, on occasion catch me sipping on a decaf hazelnut coffee, and sneaking a Reese Cup but only in very small doses.

Fact 760: Originally, I wanted to become a Marine Biologist.  As a kid I had the opportunity to study with Project Oceanology and The Mystic Marine life Aquarium in Connecticut, where I am from, all the way through high school.  At age 16 I traveled all the way to Belize to help assist researchers on a Dolphin and Reef research project.  To this day my love for marine life is ever-present.

Fact 61: My 7-year-old nephew is my favorite person to get into trouble with.

Fact 601: The tattoo on the inside of my left arm is a Quaking Aspen tree that I drew in honor of my brother who past away in August of 2004.  They are indigenous to Lake Tahoe, Ca where he lived and worked as an Emergency EMT for almost 20 years.  And just for the record, “Yes!  It took over 2 hours and hurt like hell but I never cried.”

Fact 8: My cat Myla loves when I sing Opera to her.  It’s like I am the pied piper, whenever I begin to sing she has to find me and crawl up onto my chest, regardless of where she is or what she is doing.

Fact 322: Since turning 19 years old I have lived in Connecticut, California, Florida, Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Jalisco (Mexico) and Parana (Brasil).

Fact 1977: In 2003 I competed in Red Bull’s international competition called FLUGTAG.  Teams from all over the world submit blueprints to build and attempt to fly non-powered flying machines.  My team was invited to compete in the event that took place in New York City.  We did not win.

Fact 777: Our two cats have lived in 3 different states and 2 different countries making them more well traveled than some humans we know!

Fact 12: I am allergic to all tropical fruits that contain tiny black edible seeds in them as well as mango.  They cause me to go into respiratory distress.  Thankfully I can eat pineapples, my favorite fruit.

Fact 4: I began studying dance as a young child in all genres including tap, jazz, ballet, point and international folk.  At age 16 I was cast in CARNIVALE!, an International dance and music group.  We toured all over the east coast, including Walt Disney World in 1993.   Currently I focus in Latin American Ballroom and it continues to be my favorite of all the dance I have done.

Fact 326: I once competed in CBR, a cross-country scavenger hunt that is filmed from beginning to end.  During one of my challenges I had to eat 4 live crickets, 2 live earthworms and whale blubber.  For the record I won that event!

Fact 100: Although I loved riding my bike as a kid it wasn’t until just recently that I have rediscovered those amazing inventions that balance on two wheels.  In the summer I try to bike at least 10 miles every other day.

Fact 58: My mother loves me unconditionally ever though I’ve been driving her nuts since birth!

Fact 61: My sister and I are my father’s two favorite things.

Meet Kristen and Frank.

Their story is powerful, moving and present. I am constantly getting updates as to how the story-line keeps changing and strengthening and their love inspires me to be a better partner in my own relationship. From the moment I met Kristen I felt a connection with her. She has this very kind, humble and gentle personality yet you can feel her strength and can’t help but be infected with her sense of humor. Was nothing but smiles from the moment I stepped food in the room and made me feel like an old friend invited to simply be a guest at their wedding. Frank had me giggling within 2 minutes of meeting him. You can’t help but just breathe deep, relax, when spending time with the two of them together. They are possibly the most laid back couple I have ever worked with. It was evident that it did not matter what color the linens were, whether the fork was on the left or right, the proportion of roses to lilies in the centerpieces or if the napkin font matched the one used on the program. And although the location was breath-taking, the details were exquisite and every last candle was lit at dusk, it was truly about the commitment they already had given to one another that they wanted to now share with all of their loved ones.

There were tears of sentiment and contagious laughter throughout the entire day into the night. From the vows to the speeches to the conversations between granny and the kids everyone was exchanging love and admiration for one another. I really enjoyed myself and was super sad to leave, knowing that I might not see Frank or Kristen again considering the wedding was at Playa Fiesta in Puerto Vallarta, they live in Southern California and I am on the east coast. I got home safely, slept very well and spent the next morning with friends at breakfast. In the afternoon I checked my email to discover news that I could have never prepared for. Apparently, Frank had an accident later in the evening in the pool. He was terribly hurt and had been flown back to the States and there was not a whole lot of information other than that.

WHAT? WHAT?!? HOW, WHAT, WHY??? That’s about all I could utter, to myself, out loud, at the screen in front of me. What was so incredibly confusing to me was that Frank and Kristen were so tired from the week leading up to the wedding that they weren’t even really drinking at the reception and in fact they confided in me that they were looking forward to sneaking up to their room and going to sleep after the party began to die down. I just could not understand, nor process, the information. The accident happened just 2 hours after Nate, my second shooter, and I left for the evening. I felt helpless, lost. I was so incredibly sad and could not stop thinking about them and what they were going through. Eventually Lindsay sent me a blog that was created to keep family and friend informed as to the medical progress that was being made. This is an excerpt from the very first post made a few days after the accident.
They had the perfect wedding last Saturday afternoon, with the perfect sunset and reception that followed. Sadly, late that night, after most of us had left or gone to bed, a few of the younger crowd was still gathered around the pool when Frank jumped in, hit his head and fractured some vertebraes in his neck. Thankfully, Erin who is a physical therapist, was present and our nephew, Brandon and his brother, Brent, both paramedics were summoned immediately and Frank was transferred to the local hospital with the help of another of Frank’s friends who speaks fluent Spanish. Frank was flown to San Diego for further evaluation on Sunday. They did an MRI, and scheduled him for a 6 to 8 hour surgery today (Monday) at 6 p.m. We know that he is awake, and talking, however he is paralyzed from the chest down and that is all we know at this moment. This site will be updated as soon as we get information.
So, how is Frank now? It’s now been a little over 8 weeks and the good news is that Frank is breathing on his own, he has been able to sit up AND I believe had the feeding tube removed a couple of weeks ago so hopefully he has been enjoying normal food. He was also moved from the hospital to a rehabilitation center where he has been working his booty off!!! He even is able to use his electric wheelchair so that means he has some movement in his fingers! Kristen has not left his side since saying I DO, literally. They both sound so extremely positive and it is just so remarkable how much love can help to heal. Despite how long the recovery might take, Frank is determined to walk again and I have all the faith that he will. Apparently Frank’s nickname is Tank and now seemingly a perfect one at that!
How might their story effect you? Well, unfortunately Frank and Kristen’s home is not in any way wheelchair ready so while they are working hard in rehab, family and friends are working even harder to try and get the house ready by the time Frank is due to come home in the beginning of March. So here are some things you can do.

I love love love this photo!
And this one as well.
This was before the ceremony. They were both so good about not peeking before Kristen came down the aisle!
Frank and his Mom.
I wasn’t even sure if this was the most appropriate photo to post but it made me laugh really hard when I saw it while editing. Obviously I did not notice what he kids were actually doing until 2 days ago.
I knew when looking at this image on the back of my camera that it was going to be my favorite from the day, and it is!
I am in love with how much Kristen adores Frank.

kristen + frank part2 [...] For those of you who know me, you might have heard me talk about Kristen & Frank. I knew the moment I met them that I was going to love them for a long time.  I vividly remember saying to my friend and second-shooter Nate, after leaving their wedding reception, “They are one of my favorite clients I have ever photographed.  They are just so friggin’ awesome!”  The next vivid memory I have is receiving an email the next morning informing me that Frank had been life-flighted back to the States after paralyzing himself in the pool about an hour after we left.  I was utterly in shock, in complete denial and was overwhelmed with a tornado of sadness.  You can view my original post about their wedding and the accident here: extraordinary heart : Kristen+Frank [...] (July 28, 2010 07:29 pm)
